Major crime in the South Bay and the Harbor Area dipped another 2.7 percent in 2010, continuing the trend of rates dropping to all-time lows. The overall decrease for areas patrolled by five South Bay police departments coincide with a report in January that showed major crime dropped 7 percent in South Bay cities patrolled by the Sheriff's Department.
The Palos Verdes Peninsula continued to show a very low incidence of major crimes. There were no homocides on the Peninsula, and only 8 incidences of robbery. The one area that did show an overall increase in crime was for burlaries, which increased approx. 22 % on the Peninsula. This shows the importance of Neighborhood Watch programs and keeping your homes secured when you are not at home.
