The Rancho Palos Verdes City Council has dealt a significant blow to the plans of the Annenberg Foundation's to construct a 51,000 sq. ft. $40 million aninal themed education center. The controversial project, which many residents have opposed as a "give away" of public land, while supporters believe that it will add a beautiful new resource to the City at no cost to the City, is now at a stand still.
The City Council, in a close 3-2 vote directed City staff to stop their efforts to process the Foundations Application to construct the center due to legal restrictions on the use of the site in the deed from the Federal governmnent which stipulated that the land forever be used as a public park for recreational purposes.
