Important Meeting for Palos Verdes Dog Park

This Saturday, there will be the last of 3 public input meetings regarding the proposed design for the new public parks in Rancho Palos Verdes at Grand View Park and Lower Hesse Park. Information on the proposed park improvements can be viewed at http://www.palosverdes.com/rpv/recreationparks/Lower-Hesse-Park-Grandview/index.cfm. Preliminary plans for both of these parks included a dog park component.

This meeting will be held at the Community Center at Hesse Park beginning at 9:00 am this Saturday September 25th.  Their were very few dog park supporters at the first two public input meetings held earlier this summer, and most of the input received was given by residents close by the proposed parks and who were vocal in their opposition to a dog park at either location.  These public comments can be viewed at http://www.palosverdes.com/rpv/recreationparks/Lower-Hesse-Park-Grandview/RPV_Workshop_2_Summary_Final.pdf  .  I do believe that there may not be enough room at Lower Hesse Park to have a properly designed dog park.  A dog park needs separate areas for small dogs and large dogs, and therefor needs at least 1 1/2 acres, which does not seem available at Lower Hesse Park.  At Grand View park, however, there would be plenty of room for a dog park. A dog park could be built in the center of the area at the highest point of the park, leaving a large amount of area for running and walking trails, other sports fields, and park benches and picnic tables overlooking the incredible view in the area adjacent to Palos Verdes Estates.  This area would also be well removed from any adjacent homes totally eliminating any concerns neighbors might have about noise.

The importance of this meetings is magnified for two reasons.  First,  only negative comments about a dog park were received at the first two public meetings. Secondly, we were recently informed that the County of Los Angeles would not even begin to review the feasibility of a dog park on the former Palos Verdes Landfill site until June 2012, two years from now.  So now is the time to speak up and be heard !!!!

If you want to see a dog park built on the Hill,  now is when we need your support.

I hope to see you all there on Saturday,
