South Bay Daily Breeze Article About Me

The following article about me is going to be published in tomorrow's Homes Section of the South Bay Daily Breeze:

MEET THE AGENT: Maureen Megowan

When Maureen Megowan isn't advocating for the founding of a dog park on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, she is selling homes in the South Bay.

Megowan, who is campaigning with her husband Bruce for a canine facility on a former landfill, works as a real estate agent with Remax Palos Verdes Realty in Palos Verdes Estates.

Megowan, 55, has worked in real estate since 2003.

Before that, she designed women's clothing, which she manufactured through business partners.

She also used to hold so-called trunk shows at her Palos Verdes Estates house, where she sold designer clothes during private showings.

What areas do you cover as a Realtor?

I cover the beach cities, Palos Verdes Peninsula, the South Bay. I also sold one in the desert. I sold one in Costa Mesa and one in Lake Tahoe. But in general, it's the South Bay.

What about real estate attracted you?

I really like houses and I love architecture, I love interior architecture specifically. I always see the possibilities, an archway here, the floor plan.

Is there anything in your real estate career that is unusual in the industry?

I think the renovation that I'm doing. I have always dreamed of doing the renovation work, and I'm realizing that in my career where it's happening more and more. I like figuring out what would make the property look best. What would make your house sing? And it's really rewarding to get this work done and you look at the house at the end and see how someone can enjoy living there.

What's it like to transition from the garment industry to real estate?

There's something with garments and real estate. When I was in the garment industry, some of the people who would sell me garments were real estate agents. Both things are aesthetic. Both things deal with people. Both things have the excitement factor. And there are ups and downs. You just take the skills that you have and you reinvent them for your new career. With my creativity and marketing skills, I'm lucky to have both those skills.

What's an especially interesting aspect of your job?

We have a big website and we have huge history pages. We get calls literally from all over the world. The most interesting thing is meeting people from all over the world, some of which are people from the South Bay who now live in Africa. Somebody called me from Norway. Due to our website, we do a lot of relocation business. Some people want to know what their parents' property, which sold in '82, is worth now.

If you could live your life again, what other career would you pursue?

I think interior architecture. I love it. I painted in high school. I was originally an art major.
